I don’t have an account and I don’t think I will be able to trust any of these so called challenger banks. Call me old but not being able to walk into a branch to speak to someone face to face if something goes wrong scares me. This may be the future but it’s not a future I want to be a part of.
I have heard scary things about these startups, twitter is also full of people worried about their accounts being blocked and money not being returned.
They haven’t even got a banking license for god sakes.
before I opened my Monzo account I tried Revolut, I had so much problems with being constantly asked to provide id. Ain’t you suppose to do this once? I cancelled my account customer services didn’t help either .
They work well enough that I use it for my day-to-day expenses but the last time I went on holiday I was relying on it for travel insurance, and despite having internet + gps from the moment the plane landed (even using the card within half an hour…) it didn’t activate my insurance. I spoke to support and they said it was too late to activate it as it has to be done in the first 24 hours. I am also pretty sure I even opened the app after landing!
I then ended up being billed for the insurance anyway, despite not being insured.
I was fortunate to not needed it in the end, but it could have been an expensive problem for me and Revolut refused to take any responsibility for it.
My account was blocked with no explanation, it has been 5 weeks and they have my money. Absolutely shocking treatment. Do not use, they do not know what they are doing. You have been warned.
Freelancer/sole traders accounts are reasonably priced but if you have a sole trader account just be aware that the account will be in your personal name and not your business name which is a bit of a letdown.
Onboarding was also rather disappointing and first few transactions were all held. All is sorted now but it’s not what I was expecting and I will be closing the account.

I don’t see the fuss, it’s crap. Customer support is not helpful, my account got blocked twice without warning so I decided to close and go elsewhere.
rubbish
